Barbara Lee (Tamisiea) Purtle of Council Bluffs, passed away July 23, 2022, in Council Bluffs.
Barbara was born in Missouri Valley, to Earl and Myrtle (Lee) Tamisiea on Oct. 3, 1928.  She attended St. Patrick’s Elementary through eighth grade and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1946.  She graduated from Buena Vista College in 1983. On Aug. 6, 1947, Barbara was united in marriage to George William “Bill” Purtle.  To this union were born four children, Shirley, Earline, Mark, and Douglas.  Bill passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Dec. 17, 1962.  She lived in Ord, Neb. for 12 1/2 years before moving back to Missouri Valley following the passing of her husband.  Barbara was extremely proud of successfully raising her four young children while working full-time and attending and graduating from college.  In 1978, after the high school graduation of all of her children, she moved from Missouri Valley to Omaha to be closer to her work.  Barbara was a long-time employee of OPPD in Omaha, retiring in 1994.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Earl and Myrtle Tamisiea; grandson, Brett Edwards; sisters, Vivian Eixenberger and Maurine Griffith; and son-in-law, William Edwards.
Survivors include children, Shirley (Bruce) Roberts of Missouri Valley, Earline Edwards of Council Bluffs, Dr. Mark (Mary) Purtle of Des Moines, Douglas Purtle of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren, Scott Roberts of Muscatine, Angela (Max) Kozeal of Neola, Todd (Jill) Roberts of Edmond, Okla., Dr. Erik (Dr. Annabel) Edwards of Gahanna, Ohio, Ryan Edwards of Council Bluffs, Jena (Joel) Moseman of Belleville, Wis., Dr. Steven (Carolyn) Purtle of Denver, Colo., Katherine (Michael) Von Thelen of Kula, Hawaii, John Purtle of Des Moines, Nicholas (Amy) Purtle of Spring Hill, Kan.; fifteen great-grandchildren, Courtney and Zachary Roberts, Tyler, Trent, Kaitlin, and Kaden Kozeal, Corey and Meg Edwards, Samantha and Charlotte Edwards, Luke Purtle, Weston Purtle; sister, Carol Haines of Aurora, Colo.; nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Charles Griffith.
Services will be held on August 2, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Church. Visitation at 12 p.m., Rosary at 12:30, Funeral Mass at 1. A reception will be held at the Houdek Center following burial next to her husband in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Missouri Valley.
