Carol E. Mackey, 84

Carol Elaine (Hopkins Feiler) Mackey, age 84, passed away at her home in Livermore, Calif., on Sunday, April 30, 2023. She was born Nov. 12, 1938, to Arthur and Clara Hopkins of Missouri Valley. She initially attended a 1-room school in Iowa and went on to graduate from San Francisco State University. She married James K. Feiler in 1961, and together they ran a successful contracting business for many years. To their marriage were born two children: Stephen A. J. Feiler of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Linda Rae Feiler of Alameda, Calif.

Following her husband’s death she married Charles Mackey in 2005. In retirement she followed interests in genealogy and travel.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Palo Alto, Calif Since retirement she has been active in San Ramon Valley United Methodist (Danville) and First Presbyterian Church of Livermore.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and by her brother, Kenneth Hopkins of Brentwood, Calif.

She is survived by her second husband; her two children; brother, Duane Hopkins of San Jose, Calif., sister, Marilyn (Mrs. Mike Olsen) of Tulsa, Okla.; sister-in-law, Betty Hopkins of Brentwood, Calif.; two grandchildren, James Glaviano and Lucas Glaviano of Alameda, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Her ashes are interred beside the grave of James Feiler in Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, Calif.

The family is planning a celebration of her life at First Presbyterian Church of Livermore on a date in July to be determined.
