Charles E. Olsen, 92

Charles Edward Olsen, age 92, of Calhoun township, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2022, at Providence Place, Fremont, Neb. Charles was born Dec. 19, 1930, in Harrison County, to parents Edward and Margarethe (Kalstrup) Olsen. He was one of four children. Charles graduated from Magnolia High School. He was married to Betty Schulz in March, 1953. They were married for 40 years. Betty preceded Charles in death in September of 1993. Charles was married to Arlyce Nore in February of 1994.

Charles was the father to four children and a lifetime farmer in Harrison County. In retirement he continued to help his sons with farming. He became an avid cyclist. He enjoyed riding in Ragbrai into his 80’s. He was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher at the Church of Christ in Missouri Valley for many years. He served on the Community Memorial Hospital Board and County Extension service. In the mid-sixties, Charles earned a private pilot’s license and earned an instrument rating.

Those left to celebrate his memory include his wife, Arlyce; children, Ed (Kathy) Olsen of Missouri Valley, Ruth (Kevin) Masterson of Fremont, Neb., Randy (Pam) Olsen of Missouri Valley, Linda (Tim) Conover of Oconto, Neb., and step-son J.C. (Jill) Nore of Bend, Ore. Charles is survived by eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and also by siblings, Kenneth Olsen, Lois Hallquist and Ron Olsen.

Visitation and funeral service were held Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022,at the Christian Church in Missouri Valley. Pastor Ron Wymer officiated. The music selctions were “I Can Only Imagine” and “Amazing Grace”. The casket bearers were Nate Epperson, Nate McDonald, Brady Dickenson, Micah Masterson, Benjamin Adams, and Christopher Adams. The final resting place is Calhoun Cemetery in Missouri Valley.
