Dolores M. Thompson, 88

Dolores Marie Thompson, 88, died on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at Westmont Care Center in Logan. She was born on March 28, 1934, to Richard and Marie (Mathys) Dryden in Dow City. She attended school in Dow City, graduating in the Class of 1953. On June 3, 1954, Dolores was united in marriage to Arnold Thompson in Omaha, Neb. To this union two children were born, Randy and Rhonda. In addition to her job title as wife and mother, Dolores spent time working at Bishop’s Restaurant, detasseling corn, hoeing beans, working as a secretary at National Indemnity and Mutual of Omaha and providing childcare, including for her grandchildren. Dolores was baptized and confirmed at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Omaha and was a long time member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan. 

Dolores was a collector of bells and baskets, especially Fenton. She loved going to auctions, flea markets and antique stores looking for pieces to add to her collection. She also collected Beanie Babies and would call all the local stores to see if they had gotten any new shipments in. Dolores and Arnie played pinochle with three other couples for over 50 years. The couple also enjoyed bowling in a mixed league and Dolores later bowled with her daughter, Rhonda and granddaughter, Melissa in a women's league. Most of all Dolores loved her family. She went on numerous trips with family, spent years babysitting grandchildren and traveled to many school events to support them as they were growing up. She truly enjoyed it when she was surrounded by her family. 

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnie Thompson on May 25, 2021; son, Randy Thompson on Dec. 7, 2002; and brother, Gordon Dryden. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Mike) Leonard of Logan; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Carole (Scott) Krajicek of Logan; sister-in-law, Anne Dryden of Boulder, Colo.; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. 

A funeral service was held on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Logan. Reverend Daniel Steeb presided over the service. The musicians were Donna Emswiler and Wyatt Grimes with musical selection “Amazing Grace”. The honorary pallbearers were Melissa Grimes, Becky Branstetter, Wendy Thompson, Rachael Leonard, Julianna King, Emilie Thompson, Wyatt Grimes, Landon Grimes, Kaleb Branstetter and Layla Branstetter. The pallbearers were Jason Thompson, Curtis Leonard, Randy Grimes, Jake Branstetter, Garret Thompson, Sean Thompson and Brady Thompson. Dolores’s final resting place is at the Magnolia Cemetery.
