Donnie Wheat, 80

Donnie Wheat passed away surrounded by his family on March 7. at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark.  Donnie was born in rural Luther, Okla. on Dec. 10, 1941, to Hubert and Hettie (Hartline) Wheat. Donnie was one of ten siblings.

Donnie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Delbert, Arvel (Tiny), Henry Perry, Curtis; and half brother, Ernest Levoy; sisters, Vergie Stichler, Betty Lou Winey, Ethel Lorene Zuroski, and Shirley June Shriver.

Donnie is survived by wife, Katherine (Parker) Wheat; and children, Raymond Wheat, Angela (Tim) Woods and Wayne Wheat; four grandchildren, Cassandra (Bill) Heuback, Stacey Wheat and Lukas Woods and Samuel Wheat; and sister, Darlene (Johnnie) Patterson.

Donnie met his wife, Kathy, in Missouri Valley at the Cottonwood drive in where she worked as a car hop. They were married in Council Bluffs on April 27, 1963. Donnie worked at Bemis Bag Company in Omaha, Neb., for 40 years until he and Kathy retired and moved to their favorite vacation fishing hole in Shell Knob, Mo.

Donnie enjoyed fishing, football, country music and family. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles Club.

Visitation was Friday, March 11, 2022, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. The funeral service was Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley. Pastor Ron Wymer officiated. The music selections were “He Stopped Loving Her Today”, “Daddy’s Hands”, “Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain” and “In The Garden”. The honorary bearers were Casey Heuback, Samuel Voyles Wheat, Alex Heuback, Logan Carter, Ean Heuback, Booklyn Carter, and Stacey Wheat. The casket bearers were Fred Hoyt, Donovan Burress, Troy Rath, Lukas Woods, Aaron Tuttle, and Rick Jones. The final resting place is at Evergreen Cemetery in Missouri Valley.
