Ed Spencer was presented with a Quilt of Valor by the Woodbine Womens for Veterans and the Woodbine American Legion Post, #143. Spencer joined on July 18, 1966. He went to basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He attended radio school in Biloxi, Mississippi then went to KI Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette, Michigan. Following his schooling he received orders for Vietnam and was stationed there for one year and repaired radios on fighter jets. He supported radio communication on these airplanes which were assigned to bombing raids in North Vietnam and in other combat areas. He flew on several missions; one.mission was to Ben Hoa in which they were under attack the aircraft took on heavy fire during the delivery. That mission was to deliver Marines to assist in the battle. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant E-5 in August of 1969. During his years of service, he earned National Defense medal.Vietnam service w/2 bronze stars; Rep of VN campaign medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary medal; Air Force Good Conduct medal; Air Force Commendation medal. He was discharged on July 11, 1970. The Women for Veterans, based out of Woodbine, handed out their second 'Quilt of Valor' for the summer season, as Ed Spencer of Logan received his on Aug. 17 at the Old Settlers Reunion at Magnolia.
