Emma J. Myler, 93

Emma Jean Myler, age 93, passed away on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Missouri Valley Community Hospital. Emma Jean was born July 31, 1927, the sixth child of 11, to Robert and Minnie (Pierce) Riley. She was a proud graduate of Missouri Valley High School Class of 1945. Immediately after graduation she was recruited by the U. S. Navy as a civilian employee. She was 17 years old when she went to Washington D.C. to aid in the war effort as a stenographer. She returned to Missouri Valley to marry Claude W. “Doug” Myler on August 24, 1945. They were married 60 years until his death on July 14, 2005. She worked at the VA Hospital in Omaha for many years and retired from the Omaha Corps of Engineers. Some of her hobbies were bowling, Scrabble, playing cards, and an occasional visit to the casinos. She played Words and other games on her iPad until her death, often besting her children and grandchildren. She was very patriotic and extremely proud of the military service of 5 of her siblings; her son, Jim; and 2 grandchildren.

Emma Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doug; daughters Rita Alys (at birth) and Rejina Kay; five sisters; two brothers; and a great-grandson, Daniel Dwight.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children and (spouses), Jim (Janet) Missouri Valley; Claudia Jean (Dwight) Schwertley, Rock Island, Ill.; Tom (Michelle) Osage Beach, Mo.; Janis(Earl) Mitchell, Weatherford, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Flossie Lamkins, Sacramento, Calif.; Harriet Riley, Rock Springs, Wyo.; John Riley, Missouri Valley; sister-in-law Rosella Myler, Missouri Valley; brother-in-law Roger Smith, Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID, a private burial will be held at Magnolia Cemetery with a Celebration of Life to be held in the summer
