Gladys Nadine Kuhlman was born on a farm in Harrison County, on Aug. 30, 1927, to Clarence and Hilda Nelson and died on Nov. 13, 2024, in Stockton, Calif. She was 97 years old. Her brother, Robert Nelson, still lives in San Jose, Calif. She is a descendent of General John A. Logan, whose orders established the first Memorial Day observance on May 30, 1868.

Nadine graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1945, and married Kenneth Ray Kuhlman on Aug. 17, 1947. They raised their family in Council Bluffs and Wichita, Kan. before settling in Stockton, Calif. in 1975, after a brief time in Phoenix, Ariz. Ken and Nadine were married for 64 years, until Ken died in 2011.

Mom had a full and rich life as a homemaker, wife and mother. She was blessed with four children, Thomas Alan (Susan) Kuhlman, Robert Michael (Merry) Kuhlman, Jennifer Kay (Duane, deceased) Miles and Andrew (Erin) Kuhlman, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. She welcomed each new addition to her family with a beautiful hand-knitted item. She was well loved and always appreciated for her delicious meals, served with a side of wit and laughter, and legendary pies!

Nadine and her late husband, Ken, were very active in Lincoln Presbyterian Church for many years, in worship, fellowship and service. Nadine was the star of the knitting group, patiently helping new knitters and expertly turning out blankets, baby booties, scarfs and other beautiful knitted items. She and Ken served at memorial services, delivered meals to shut-ins and offered their creative skills to craft fairs. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held in Missouri Valley in June,2025. Time and date to be determined.
