James “Jim” Albert Greene, age 86, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away on Feb. 20, 2024, in Fayetteville. He was born on Sept. 25, 1937, in Missouri Valley, to Glen Greene and Cecile (Morrow) Greene. Jim graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1955 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After serving in the Air Force, he joined the railroad and worked there for ten years. During that time, he married the mother of his children, Judy Williamson. Jim then worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years as a mail carrier. In 1980, Jim and Judy divorced, and he married Ruth Bertelson on July 18, 1987, in Missouri Valley. After his retirement from the Post Office, they moved to Northwest Arkansas. Jim volunteered at the VA Hospital and helped to build homes for Habitat for Humanity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Cecile Greene; brothers, John Greene and Dick Greene; and stepson, Nathan Bertelson.
Jim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ruth Greene; daughters, Peggy Smith and husband Dave of Texas, and Lisa Reed and husband Dave of Arizona; son, Mark Greene and wife Natalie of Florida; stepdaughter, Candice Runyon of Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
