Jim Tatta, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs.
Jim was born in Council Bluffs on April 22, 1928, to Charlie and Elizabeth Tatta.
Jim attended Pierce and Bloomer grade school and then graduated in 1946, from Abraham Lincoln High School. He enrolled into Omaha University, after about a year, Jim felt he didn’t fit in there. He then enlisted into the United States Army and served 20 years total in the Iowa National Guard. He “got itchy feet”, and applied and was accepted into the FBI in Washington D.C where he became a fingerprint Analyst. Jim returned to Council Bluffs and started his 35-year career with the U.S. Postal Service as a carrier.
He met Genie Baird and talked her into a motorcycle ride, she loved it, and they eventually got married. To their union three beautiful girls were born, Rita, Lorna, and Marla.
In his free time Jim enjoyed reading, skiing, biking, and traveling.
Jim is survived by his daughter Rita (David) Larson; granddaughters, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, daughters Lorna Griffith and Marla Alexander, son-in-law Ronald Alexander.
Donations can be directed to the Harrison County Humane Society, in honor of Jim.
It was Jim’s wish to be cremated and have no services.
