JoAnne Sweezey, 76

JoAnne Sweezey, age 76, of Blair, Neb., passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, in Blair.  She was born July 13, 1945, to Max and Mildred (Noyes) Hadfield in Omaha, Neb.  She married Richard Sweezey on March 2, 1968, and they lived in Kodiak, Alaska where she went to college and worked as a foreman at a fishery.  She then moved to Glenview, Ill., where she was employed by Abbot Labs.  She also lived a time in Goose Creek, S.C., before moving to Blair, where she lived for the next 45 years.   JoAnne enjoyed country music, watching the news and Nebraska football.  She was deeply devoted to caring for her parents as they aged. 

Survivors include her son, Jeff Sweezey of Goose Creek, SC; granddaughter, Samantha Sweezey and fiancé’ (Tanner Woehler) of Ralston, Neb.; great-grandson Weston Woehler; three great-nieces and one great-nephew; sister, Genee’ (Norm) Godden of Carmel, Ind.; nephews, Matt (Penni) Godden, of Carmel, Ind. and Nick (Kim) Godden of Chicago, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Max Hadfield. 

Visitation and funeral service were held Friday, Dec. 17, 2021, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.

Pastor Wayne Bahr officiated. The organist was Sharon Shelton with Rick Powell on Vocals. The music selection was “You Raise Me Up”. Honorary casket bearers were John Burbridge and John Saqmake. The casket bearers were Jeff Sweezey, Matt Godden, Mile Ruffcorn, and Michael Ruffcorn. JoAnne’s final resting place is at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia.
