Julie Flint, 64

Posted

Julie Flint passed away peacefully at the hospital on Feb. 17, 2023, in Omaha, Neb. She was the daughter of Dale and Virginia Adams.

Julie was born July 21, 1958, and was one of the first children born in the newly built Missouri Valley Hospital. Her early life was spent in Dunlap and Stuart, before eventually moving to Missouri Valley in 1966, where she would live the rest of her life.

Julie attended St. Patrick’s Elementary school, and both St. Albert’s and Missouri Valley High Schools, graduating in 1976. She also attended several universities, including Creighton, Morningside, and finally graduating from The College of Saint Mary with a bachelor’s in paralegal studies.

After graduating, Julie worked for the Harrison County Recorder’s office as a deputy recorder. However, she would tell you her favorite job was working on her tan as a lifeguard in her youth at both the Missouri Valley pool and Woodland Camp pool in Little Sioux.

Julie’s favorite thing in the world was her family (followed closely by Creighton basketball!). She loved family gatherings, where she would always plan fun games and activities for everyone, from Christmas trivia to family bingo. And she always made sure there were enough prizes for everyone! She also loved playing party games, like Catchphrase and Telestrations. These never failed to make her laugh, like the time she laughed herself to tears when the clue was Don Quixote and Grandma Virginia confidently yelled “Don Quick-sote!”

Despite her limitations, Julie was very artistic and loved showing off her creativity. She would often write loving and witty poems for family members’ special occasions, and her movie-themed Halloween displays were the talk of the neighborhood.

Julie was preceded in death by her father, Dale Adams.

Julie is survived by her mother, Virginia Adams; her son, Shawn (Kate) Flint; and granddaughter, Olivia Flint; sisters, Jane (Joe) Fitzgerald and Jill (Shane) Custer; her brother, Jim (Vickie) Adams; nieces, Angela Seidel and Stephanie (Dylan) Waschkowski; nephews, Tyler Lemon, Adam (Jessica) Fitzgerald, Austin (Maggie) Fitzgerald, Ben Adams, and Chris Adams; and great-nieces and nephews, Ella, Brady, Julia, Nora, Rhys, Hadley, Hailey, Harrison, Nolan, Quinn, Margot, and Rooney.

The funeral service is Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at St. Patrick’s Church in Missouri Valley and a visitation Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at the Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, with a vigil service. The Celebrant was Father Raphael Masabakhwa and Deacon Mike Carney. The organist was Kris Gash and the vocalist was Elizabeth Dillinger. The musical selections were “City of God”, “Panis Angelicus”, “The Servant Song” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth”.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to the Arthritis National Research Foundation. You can donate online at www.curearthritis.org.
