Larry Duane Rath, age 66, of Woodbine, passed away on Feb. 28, 2021, peacefully in his home. Larry was the first baby born in Council Bluffs, on Jan. 1, 1955, to Leonard and Lucille (Wohlers) Rath. Larry grew up in Beebeetown, on the family farm and loved to help his dad with the livestock and corn fields. He graduated from Tri Center School in 1973. Larry was married to Lori (Thomas) Rath for 25 years and had four beautiful daughters. He lived in Omaha, Neb. for 37 years and worked as a Machinist before retiring in 2015. He loved Nebraska, Vikings, Cowboys and Chiefs football teams and was really disappointed when the season was over every year. He loved gardening, drinking beer and Harley Davidson Motorcycles, especially his two Softails, Carol and Kiki.  

Larry is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his daughters, Courtney (Chris) Dowling, Desiree (Adam) Grayson, Sybille (Mark) Pierce and Emma (Brian) Metz; grandchildren, Hailee Shepherd, Aidan & Avery Grayson, Everett, Ian, Austin & Colton Pierce; sister, Lorraine (Noel) Blaas of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Lyle (Judy) Rath of Thedford, Neb.; and nieces, nephews and a lot of friends.

Visitation was Thursday, Mar. 4, 2021, at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.

Due to Covid, there will be no luncheon afterwards. Funeral service was Friday, Mar. 5, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Missouri Valley. Celebrant was Father Raphael Masabakhwa with Lyle Waterhouse as the musician. The Music Selections were “On Eagle's Wings”, “Be Not Afraid” and “Amazing Grace”. The Honorary Bearers were Everett Pierce, Ian Pierce, Austin Pierce and Colton Pierce. The Casket Bearers were Chris Dowling, Adam Grayson, Mark Pierce, Brian “Bear” Metz, Aidan Grayson and Avery Grayson. The final resting place is at Grange Cemetery in Honey Creek.
