Lloyd E. Williams, 91

Lloyd Earl Williams, son of Ray and Agatha (Goldhammer) was born April 27, 1931, in Delmont, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont. He attended Delmont schools, graduating from Delmont High School in 1949. Following his high school graduation, he farmed with his parents until he was drafted to serve in the Korean War in 1952. He served his country from 1952 to 1954, as a telegraph operator while stationed in Germany achieving the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, Lloyd farmed with his parents until 1968, then he attended Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City, to study meat cutting. Upon graduating he moved to Missouri Valley, to work for Safeway Supermarket as a meat cutter for three years.

On Feb. 6, 1971, Lloyd and Rosalie (Whited) Nordby were united in marriage at Delmont, S.D. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Missouri Valley/ Loveland area. Lloyd worked for Baker’s Supermarkets in Omaha from 1971 until retiring after 22 years in 1993. Lloyd and Rose also owned and operated “Williams Grocery Store” in Loveland from Sept. 1974 to the mid-80s. Never one to sit around, while ‘retired’ Lloyd also worked at the Carlson Meat Locker in Blair, Neb.

Lloyd was a member of First Lutheran Church where he served as an Elder for 10 years. He also participated in the weekly Bible Study Group and helped with Vacation Bible School. He was a member of the American Legion Post 249 since 1954. Lloyd enjoyed fishing with his kids, grandkids and friends, family gatherings (where he was often the cook), gardening and the daily coffee group at McDonald’s. Lloyd was a resident of Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley when he passed at the age of 91 years.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosalie; brothers, Chester and Victor; son, Terry Nordby; daughter, Virginia Francisco; and son-in-law, Jeffrey McEvoy.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his children, Timothy Williams of Council Bluffs, Douglas Williams of Omaha, Neb., Randi McEvoy of Harlan, Ronald Nordby (Rhonda) of Missouri Valley, Vanessa (Allan) Sorensen of Missouri Valley; son-in-law, Don Francisco of Anderson, Mo.; seventeen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Clarice Williams of Rapid City, S.D.; two nieces, one nephew, other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral service were held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley. Pastor Joseph Hanson was the clergy with Alexandria Plumb as the accompanist vocalist. The vocal selections were “Love Divine All Loves Excelling”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”. The music selection was “Here I Am Lord”. The honorary casket bearer was Todd Nordby. The casket bearers were Josh Sorensen, Shane Francisco, Noah Williams and Cal Evans. The final resting place is Branson Cemetery in Loveland. Military Honors will be conducted by Missouri Valley Julius F. Muller American Legion Post 377 and VFW Post 6256 and O’Hara Seeley Post of Logan, Iowa Army National Guard. Family will direct memorials.
