Marilyn M. Clinkenbeard, 85

Marilyn Mae Clinkenbeard, 85 of Logan, passed away Dec. 24, 2020, at Westmont Care Center. Marilyn was born to Lawrence and Edith (Godden) Pitt Aug. 13, 1935. She graduated from Logan High School in May 1953, and married Kenneth Dale Clinkenbeard June 1953 in the Logan Christian Church. Kenneth was enlisted in the Air Force, stationed in Texas. After their wedding, Marilyn joined Kenneth in Texas, where their first child was born. Kenneth was then sent to Germany, Marilyn was able to join him there. They lived in Germany for approximately a year, where their second child was born. After Ken’s military service was over, they settled in Harrison County eventually buying their farm northwest of Magnolia. Here is where they raised their six children. Marilyn worked hard while raising her family, tending a large garden, canning all summer, helped with livestock chores, hoed beans, worked in the orchards, ran kids back and forth to swim lessons, 4-H activities, youth group and school activities. It was not until the children got a little older, did she find employment outside the home. Through the years she worked at several restaurants in Logan and Missouri Valley. Casey’s General Store in Logan and lastly Harvey’s Grocery Store in Logan. Marilyn enjoyed reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles, dancing, and most of all playing cards. She was a serious card player, not ever a sore loser, but she really wanted to win! She was always ready for a game of cards no matter where she was. She always carried a deck in her purse. Ken and Marilyn would join family and friends regularly at the Airplane Inn in Honey Creek and the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley for card games.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; grandchildren, Jessica Methvin, Jason Meyer, Brian Clinkenbeard; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Pitt and Norma Pitt; brother, Marion Pitt, brother-in-law Larry Martin; and her parents, Lawrence and Edith Pitt.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Patricia (Wayne) Ellison, Cheryl (Jeff) Meyer, Peggy (Sean) Custer, James (Evonne) Clinkenbeard, Richard (Cheryl) Clinkenbeard, Jill (Michael) Hansen, Nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, siblings, N.E. “Gene” (Evelyn) Pitt, Gloria (Larry-D) Martin, Karen (Bob) Lenninger, Jan (Bill) Spencer, and many nieces and nephews.
