Missouri Valley Public Library presents a program of music by Kay Krekow

Posted

On Thursday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m., Kay Krekow will present her program “She Is Music: A Thousand Years of Vocal Music by Women Composers.

According to Krekow, women have been writing classical music for the voice for over 1000 years in Western culture. In an imaginative and entertaining multi-media format, the soprano brings a program about extraordinary women whose lives and vocal music embody the creative and cultural influences of their time.

Since the dawn of human existence, women have sung lullabies to babies, joined in the work songs of other women, and performed the role as story-tellers and even in a religious setting.

This program, presented in the style of a 19th century salon, features some of the most beautiful vocal music ever written—and all of it by women. Hear the music of extraordinary women who also maintained successful careers as singers, composers, poets and pianists who were also mothers, sisters, daughters and wives.

“She Is Music” is a one-woman program of songs and accompanying commentary about the unique circumstances that enabled each of these women to practice their talent. Please join us at the library for what promises to be a very entertaining and lively evening. The program is free of charge to the public.
