Richard “Dick” Durwin Isom, 81, passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, at home in Missouri Valley.   Dick was born Oct. 8, 1940, in Loveland, to George R. and Velma F. (Hiles) Isom.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ada Isom; his sister, Alice Knepper; and his eldest brother, Raymond Isom.  Dick is survived by his brother, Glenn Isom of Danbury; his son, Tony Isom and wife Bonnie of Maryland; and two grandsons, Nicholas and Christopher Isom of Maryland. He also had several nieces and nephews.  He graduated May 1959 from the Danbury Public High School in Danbury.  He joined the United States Air Force on Dec. 27, 1962, as a Communications Systems Operator/Technician; Telecommunications Operations Supervisor; and a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Specialist over the course of his twenty years in service to America.  Dick retired honorably in 1982, as a Master Sergeant (Msgt, E-7).  After retiring from the US Air Force, Dick furthered his career as an Automotive Repair Instructor at Universal Technical Institute in Omaha, Neb.

Dick continued in service to the Nation for seventeen years as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring Aug. 31, 2003.  As an active member of The American Legion, Post 337 of Missouri Valley, he served as Post Commander and Honor Guard, giving continued service to America’s Veterans.   Never shying away from helping the community, Dick had served on the Missouri Valley City Council.  Richard Isom was a father, grandfather, friend and a dedicated patriot to the Nation.  He will be missed.

Dick was laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery, Missouri Valley on Jan. 14, 2022, with Pastor Brad Westercamp officiating the graveside service

Military Honors will be conducted by Offutt Honor Guard and Local Legions.
