Rose Marie Casteel, 92 years old, died peacefully at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center on Sept. 24, 2024.
Rose was born in Rumford, Maine to Pierre and Aline Lemay. She lived in Maine and graduated from Mexico, Maine high school. Upon graduation, she and her best friend, Jannette took the train to Washington, D.C., where she met the love of her life, Lloyd Casteel. They were married and when Lloyd was discharged from the Marines, moved to Omaha, Neb.
Rose had four children, one daughter and three sons. They moved from Omaha to Missouri Valley in 1973, where she and Lloyd bought an acreage and built their dream home. Rose loved to garden, sew, cook, and take care of her children, chickens, and cows.
Rose is survived by two sisters, Louise Horne Dixfield and Gail Dakin Dixfield, both of Maine; daughter, Denise Anderson (husband Terry); son, Dennis Casteel (wife Sue); three grandsons, Ross Casteel, Donald Anderson, and Kenneth Anderson and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pierre and Aline Lemay; husband, Lloyd Casteel; sisters, Claire Akers and June Lemay; and sons, Brian Casteel and Timothy Casteel.
Interment will be held at 12:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, near Van Meter. All are welcome. The service will be livestreamed, for those unable to attend. The link can be found on Rose's obituary page at www.IlesCares.com, where you may also leave online condolences.
