Sharon “Suzy” Suzanne West age 77, of Honey Creek, passed away on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, in her home surrounded by loved ones. Suzy was born on June 2, 1944; raised by beloved parents Charles and Carrie Cockley. She attended school at Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. Following her education, Suzy pursued a career as a nursing assistant where she found a passion for helping those in need. This passion carried over into everything she did; whether she was bartending at the local bar or waitressing at Iowa Feed and Grain, you were in good hands with Suzy. On Oct. 1, 1965, Suzy married her soulmate and one true love Patrick Henry West. Pat and Suzy built a life together filled with love, laughter, and joy. They raised five beautiful children, Patrick Henry Jr., Gina Susanne, Darren Dion, Marty Cary, and Monte Ray. To Suzy, her children were the center of her entire world and her meaning in life. She was a devoted, wonderful mother and became a second mom to many kids along the way. Suzy enjoyed several hobbies including gardening, bird watching, caring for the various critters she rescued, and cooking. She was a great cook and always baked the best desserts; she just loved cooking for a crowd. Everyone was welcome in Suzy’s kitchen. It was a place where you could get a good meal, a few laughs, a warm embrace, and quite possibly an unsolicited kiss; but maybe not so much a place where you would want to rest your eyes for too long. Suzy was a notorious prankster and jokester; those who fell asleep early were easy targets for her ornery schemes. You couldn’t leave your drink unattended if Suzy was around. You might come back to find a special surprise. Suzy brought life and warmth to every room she entered. You couldn’t help but smile in her presence. To know Suzy was to know love, and she will be forever missed.

Suzy is preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; and parents Charlie and Carrie.

She is survived by her son Patrick Jr. (wife Pamela) of Missouri Valley; daughter, Gina Huber(West) (husband Reece) of Missouri Valley; son, Darren (wife April) of Honey Creek; son, Marty (wife Christina) of Honey Creek; son, Monte Hanel (wife Diane) of Elk City; nine grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, March 5, from 1-3 p.m., at the Eagles Club in Missouri Valley.
