WEST HARRISON COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION MONTHLY MEETING – 6:30PM April 12, 2023 LIBRARY – MONDAMIN, IA The West Harrison Community School District Board of Education met in regular session with the following present: Julie Kuhlman, Hillary Stevenson, Kim Nunez and Directors. Mr. Marty Fonley, Superintendent, Mrs. Jackie Fonley, Principal, Tonya Radil, Board Secretary/Treasurer Visitors. Katie Cooper WHEA Representative. Called to Order. The meeting was called to order in the library at 6:30 p.m. by Vice President Kuhlman. Roll Call. Consent Agenda. A motion was made by Director Stevenson and seconded by Director Nunez to consent agenda, March 8th and 29th board minutes, the approval of monthly bills, and the approval of financial reports. Discussion. Kuhlman aye, Stevenson aye, Nunez aye 3-0 Motion carried. Public Hearing for the FY 23-24 Certified Budget. The public hearing was opened by Vice President Kuhlman at 6:31 p.m. Mr. Fonley reviewed the budget. There was no public comments. The public hearing was closed at 6:32 p.m. Public Items of Discussion. Board Items of Discussion. Human Resources. A motion was made by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Stevenson to accept the resignation of Mary Crowder (Para-Educator), Scott Rife (Assistant HS Football Coach), Amy Stolz (JH Student Council), Troy Maasen (JH Football), Aleta Archer (Route Driver) and Jason Allen to volunteer for Softball. The Board thanks Mary Crowder for her 28 years of service. Discussion. Kuhlman aye, Stevenson aye, Nunez aye 3-0 Motion carried. Consideration of Fund Raisers for the Activity Fund. Motion was made by Director Stevenson and seconded by Director Nunez to approve the Tiefenthaler and Golf fund raisers. Discussion. Ayes Directors Kuhlman aye, Stevenson aye, Nunez aye 3-0 Motion carried. Consideration of Rescheduling the May Board Meeting. A motion was made by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Stevenson to reschedule the May board meeting. The board meeting will be rescheduled for May 8th at 6:30 pm. Discussion. Motion to adopt the FY 23-24 Certified Budget as presented by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Stevenson. Discussion. Kuhlman aye, Stevenson aye, Nunez aye 3-0 Motion carried. Consideration of Hearing Date to Amend FY23 Budget. Motion was made by Director Stevenson and seconded by Director Nunez to amend the FY 2023 certified budget. The public hearing date is set for May 8th, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at West Harrison CSD High, 410 Pine Street, Mondamin, IA 51557. Discussion. Kuhlman aye, Stevenson aye, Nunez aye 3-0 Motion carried. Consideration of the IASB Membership. A motion was made by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Stevenson to approve the IASB membership for $1696.00. Discussion. A motion was made by Director Nunez and seconded by Director Stevenson to approve a principal contract for the duration of 2 years. Discussion. Administrative Reports: Mrs. Fonley reports that K-5th grade had a special visit from Coach Sloth. West Harrison will have their first annual Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dance. There was a great turn out for the child fair. We will be introducing Books on the Field. Mrs. Fonley was very pleased with the 3rd quarter grades. There has been some really good teacher collaborations for the school year. Also we are going to have a “course career fair.” Mr. Fonley reports that they are working on scheduling for the music classes for next year. Adjournment.
