The TV ads announce that children will soon return to school. The Missouri Valley Ministerial Alliance has already started planning for that moment with its annual backpack event.
Families will be able to receive school supplies to start the year — including backpacks that the students themselves get to choose.
The giveaway is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Missouri Valley United Methodist Church, at 308 E. Superior St. in Missouri Valley.
The list of supplies needed for each grade level are provided by the school. Families visiting for the backpack giveaway will also receive a voucher for one week’s worth of groceries from the Harrison County Food Pantry. Clothes from Community of Christ Clothing Exchange will also be available.
Sunrise Friendship Pantry, at the Sunrise Nazarene Church, will be open from 10 a.m. to noon that day.
Please call Angie Aronson at 402-670-4366, Diane Hoyt at 712-216-1602, or Melba Struble at 402-651-2257 if you have questions. Items for backpacks can be donated at any church or at City Hall.
