She has been playing soccer for as long as she can remember, and she has numerous, unforgettable memories. As Sophie Coniglia progressed through high school, she knew her prep athletic career would come to an end, and she would be done. She began to take her training more seriously, going to college showcase camps, as well as reaching out to area college coaches to come take a look.

Central College (Pella) liked what they saw, as Caniglia signed her letter of intent in February to continue playing soccer at the Division III level.

“Soccer relates to life, as you have to be looking ahead, anticipating while being on the move, while looking for the next opportunity,” Coniglia added. “I instantly connected with the coaching staff and players on my college visit. Pella is very welcoming, beautiful and peaceful, it feels like home and it will be the place where I will be able to do what I love the most.”

Caniglia narrowed her choices down to Luther College (Decorah), Arcadia University (Glenside, PA), and Central (Pella).

“Central will give me the chance to improve and grow the most, both academically and athletically,” Caniglia added. “The biggest selling point for Central is the close-knit bond the team has, the high expectations the coaches have, and the willingness both have to put in the hard work.”

Caniglia looks to improve her play in her final season as a Lady Reds, knowing she has some work to before taking her game to the college level.

“Playing soccer at the college level requires a faster speed of play, as well as more intense competition,” Coniglia said. “I’m happy this decision process is over, as it was getting stressful to find that perfect college fit. I am very excited to play at the next level, as it’s an accomplished feeling, as well as relief.”

Caniglia is the daughter of Chrissy and Joe Caniglia, and she plans to major in Biology in the fall.
