Delores Dorland and 'It’s All About the Bass'

Posted

On Tuesday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at the Missouri Valley Public Library, Delores Dorland will present a program about life with her bass instrument.

A bass is a musical instrument that produces tones in the low-pitched range of middle C. Since producing low pitches usually requires a long air column or string, the string and wind bass instruments are usually the largest instruments in their families or instrument classes.

Delores learned to play the piano at the age of 9, the violin at the age of 12 and the bass while attending high school. She currently plays with the Blair Area Community Band and the Kanesville Symphony Orchestra.

Her most recent concert was playing in Council Bluffs with a cover band for the rock group Pink Floyd. Scott Moore, who grew up in Missouri Valley, wrote the music the Council Bluffs orchestra read in order to accompany the band.

She is a retired teacher who lives in Missouri Valley. She has many talents and hobbies, including painting watercolors, quilting, reading, as well as playing her bass.

Join us at the Library for an entertaining program during which Dorland will show her bass, give a demonstration and speak about her experiences with it. The event is free of charge to the public.
