On Thursday, Oct. 19, at 5 p.m. at the Missouri Valley Public Library, Duffy Hudson will present his program about the life of the famed magician Harry Houdini.
Hudson, who tours the Midwest bringing his programs to various venues, which includes public libraries, is renowned throughout the U.S. as well as Europe for his acts. In fact, later that Thursday evening, he will visit the Council Bluffs Library to present his program about the inventor Nikola Tesla.
Besides being named by the Los Angeles Daily News as “LA’s Best One Man Show,” Duffy was the first Live History performer to appear at the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, appearing as the author Edgar Allan Poe.
Harry Houdini was born in Budapest, Hungary, and became a circus acrobat, and later he took an interest in locksmithing. Performing various tricks, he and his wife Bess played in museums and tent shows before moving up to large theaters. Houdini was most famous for escaping from straightjackets, coffins and handcuffs, as well as other bindings.
In the program, Hudson will perform some of Houdini’s most famous magic tricks, including escaping from a straightjacket, swallowing needles and demonstrating card tricks while he discusses the events of the escape artist’s life.
The program is free and open to the public.
