O.J. Fargo to speak at the Missouri Valley Public Library

The Missouri Valley Public Library has received funding from Humanities Iowa, a private nonprofit, to host a presentation called Just Before the Battle, Mother by O.J. Fargo on Thursday, November 6, at 6 p.m. in the Library’s Community Room.

A cultural resource for Iowans since 1971, Humanities Iowa offers many cultural and historical programs and grants to Iowa’s communities.

Fargo dresses in full Union Army regalia and focuses the first-person presentation on an individual Iowa soldier’s Civil War experience. After a brief overview of Iowa’s involvement, the audience is introduced to Fargo performing as a returning Civil War veteran.

Fargo will detail the experiences of an Iowan during the conflict. During and after the

presentation, the audience is encouraged to ask questions and engage in a dialogue with the “soldier,” who stays in character.

Fargo also brings an artifact display and a fully electronic Civil War roster of all Iowans who served.

Join us for this historical view of an important piece of Iowa’s heritage in U.S. history.
