Defense leads Panthers past Westerners in home finale
Logan-Magnolia built a slim first half lead, and made it stand up in a 17-6 win over Akron-Westfield in the Class A, District 8 regular season finale at Bob Evans Field on Oct. 17 in Logan.
“This was the type of game we needed, especially as we enter the post-season,” stated Head Coach Matt Straight. “It was a gritty win, as we had to scratch and claw for everything we got.”
Ashton Peszulik made his return to the line-up, finishing 10-14 for 97 yards. Carson Edney had a 5-yard scoring pass to Eli Esser, and Edney added 110 yards rushing.
Defensively, the Panthers had a solid effort, led by Cael Wallis (6.0 tackles), Wade Hawkins (5.5 tackles), Robert Bothwell (5.0 tackles) and Tyson Jenkins (4.5 tackles).
This was the final home game at the Bob Evans Sports Complex for seniors Adam Roden, Luke Walski, Jason Kastner, Eli Esser, Carson Edney, Tyson Jenkins, Grady Brix, and Aaron Cordell.
“I was happy the seniors got this win to send us into postseason,” Straight concluded. “They have been great examples for the younger players on how to deal with adversity. It was very physical, but we expected that.”
Up Next (Oct. 24): Logan-Magnolia (3-3, 5-3) clinched a spot in the 2025 Iowa High School State Football Playoffs, as the Panthers will be at AGCG at 7 p.m. in Guthrie Center.
