Fast start lifts Woodbine past East Mills
Woodbine scored eight first quarter touchdowns on their way to a 74-0 win over East Mills in 8-Man, District 10 action on Sept. 26 at Hastings.
“Our defense and special teams were making plays all night,” stated Head Coach Dustin Crook. “We were reading the keys, and our front line guys were making crushing blocks to get our backs into the open field. It was fun to watch.”
Woodbine’s defense set the tone forcing five turnovers including three interceptions (Joe Freund, Brody Pryor, Dillon Reed) and two fumble recoveries (Quinton Heistand, Matthew Tremel). Freund (42-yds) and Dillon Reed (68 yds) both had kickoff returns for scores. Brenner Sullivan (8.5 tackles), Matthew Tremel (4.0 tackles) and Cal Pryor (4.0 tackles) led a strong defensive front.
Cal Pryor threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns, Brody Pryor added two passing scores, and another two rushing scores.
“It’s nice to have some depth and be able to spread the ball around,” Crook concluded. “This is an unselfish team, and they’re doing what it takes to help the team win. We know as we flip the calendar this week, we have bigger games ahead.”
Up Next (Oct. 3): Woodbine (4-0, 5-0) will host Coon Rapids-Bayard in non-district play for Homecoming at Henry Boone Field in Woodbine.
