HC Food Pantry continues annual holiday tradition

During the holidays, Harrison County food pantry was able to offer our residents needed food for themselves and/or their families. We had 165 families receive food baskets at the Christmas giveaway that coordinated with an event with the clothing exchange and boutique giveaway.

So many generous folks in our county have helped make the holiday season a huge success, by bringing food, kitchen, personal items and monetary donations to make sure the pantry had the supplies to give people what they needed for their homes.

After 38 years, the Little Christmas Store remains one of the special events for children.

The event is sponsored by the Community of Christ Church. Proceeds generated for purchasing gifts for mom and dad for $1 each, are donated to the food pantry. It’s a priceless experience to help these children select a gift, then the excitement of keeping a secret. This year 213 children shopped, generating $454 for the pantry to continue their work.

When people come to the food pantry, they also visit the Clothing Exchange located in the Community of Christ church. Donations of clothing and household goods come from good folks that want to pass along gently used items to those in the county. The feeling is that we need to serve the people in our county.

It is an honor and responsibility to be involved in these ongoing efforts serving people of all ages in Harrison County. This work is not possible without community, individual, business, volunteer and churches involvement. As long as the donations and the need for services balance out and we are able to when called on, we will be open to serve those who need us.
