Gary L. Christians, 81

Gary Lee Christians “Goose” age 81 years, 4 months, 18 days of Logan, passed away Oct. 25, 2022, at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb.  Gary was born on June 7, 1941, in Magnolia, to Frederick and Evelyn (Plath) Christians. He graduated from Magnolia School in 1960.  Gary held a variety of jobs over the years including Harrison County Road Department, farm hand for John Benedickt and Jerry Straight, raised feeder pigs with his kids, Schemmer Limestone Quarry in Logan, IBP in Council Bluffs, Tyson Foods in Denison, Dunlap Livestock Auction, and drove a school bus for Logan-Magnolia Community School District.  Gary was united in marriage to Patricia Hand at the Zion Lutheran Church in Magnolia. Four children were born to the union, Craig, Curtis, Michelle, and Cory.

Gary enjoyed watching old westerns, watching sporting events his children and grandchildren were involved in, riding horses in the local parades, and going on trail rides with his brother, Bill. He also enjoyed driving the activity bus and interacting with the kids on his bus route.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Christians; great-grandson, River Knudsen; sister-in-law, Judy Vana; and brothers-in-law, Richard Jordan, and Robert Jordan.

Gary is survived by his wife, Patricia Christians of Logan; children, Craig and his wife Pam of Logan, Curtis of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Michelle of Dunlap, Cory and his wife Michelle of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Alexis, Ashley, Coen, Cade, Kelsi, Amanda (Ben), Nicholas (Samantha), Dillon, Jessica, John  and Korilynn; great-grandchildren, Easton, Holden, Gideon, Lucille, and Raine; sisters-in-law, Juliane Christians of Council Bluffs, Maryln Jordan, and Ardith Jordan of Logan; brother-in-law, Don Vana of Logan; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan. The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, at the First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley, with Pastor Joseph Hansen officiating and Ben McIntosh as the organist. The music selections were “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Just As I Am Without One Plea”. The honorary bearers were Amanda Jarosz, Alexis Christians, Ashley Christians, Coen Christians, Cade Christians, Kelsi Christians, Samantha Knudsen, Jessica Rupp, and Korilynn Christians. The pall bearers were Nicholas Knudsen, Dillon Knudsen, John Feeney, Ben Jarosz, Kirk Walker and Jason Benson. The final resting place is at Magnolia Cemetery in Magnolia.
