Getting Crafty in Moorhead

“NATURE INSPIRED ART”

by Shirley Konz, Panora, IA.

I began painting in the 1980’s, working primarily with oils on canvas as well as on a variety of unique surfaces including coffee pots, tractor seats, shovels, saws and other found objects.

Gardening has always been one of my passions. On our farm, I maintained a large garden and built a greenhouse where I enjoyed growing unusual plants, exploring plant folklore, and working with herbs and dried flowers. Over the years, in addition to operating the greenhouse, I owned several small retail shops where I created and sold handcrafted herbal seasoning blends, teas and herbal soaps.

Today, I grow many of the flowers used in my pressed flower artwork and gather grasses and wildflowers from the surrounding fields and country roadsides. My husband, Larry and I live in Panora where I exhibit my work in local shops, farmers markets and craft shows.

Shirley’s items and creations from five other crafters exhibits can be seen at the Moorhead Cultural Center from through September 20, 2026, throughout the weekends (Fri., Sat. and Sundays) from 1 – 4 p.m. at 120 Oak Street in Moorhead.
