CANDIDATE FOR: Woodbine Community School Board
EXPLAIN WHO YOU ARE: A lifelong resident of Woodbine, I have several relatives who have worked for school, served on school board. I am an active community resident, as I am part of the Kiwanis club, City Board of Adjustment. I enjoy reading at the Woodbine library, I stay active in CREW Center.
WHY DID YOU RUN FOR THIS POSITION? I want to stay involved, while gaining a better understanding of the current issues. I am an advocate for public education, and look forward to explaining board decisions to local taxpayers.
WHAT FROM YOUR BACKGROUND QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS POSITION? I would feel comfortable being an active board member, as I am very involved in community affairs. Serving on local boards gives me the confidence / knowledge to be an advocate for WCS, on the local level and at regional and state meetings. I am a good listener, enjoy interacting with all kinds of people, students, adults, school staff, and administration.
WHAT ARE YOU GOALS IF ELECTED? To work with other board members, staff, administration, while making public education in Woodbine a shining example for local schools. Our STEM program at Ignite, is great, as young people from other towns come to our school to learn a trade to better their lives. I would attend all meetings of the board, go to every school activity to monitor how things are going. I would monitor finances and expenditures of the school district to better ensure taxpayers dollars were being well spent. I would work to keep local property taxes and levies at a level both fair to taxpayers and the school district, so that the work of educating and preparing students is well funded.
