TAMMY FLINT
CITY/TOWN: Missouri Valley
CANDIDATE FOR: West Harrison School Board
EXPLAIN WHO YOU ARE: I am a wife, mother of 4 and now grandmother. I reside north of Missouri Valley and have lived in Harrison County/West Harrison School District my entire life. I am currently a project manager consultant. My husband and I have owned an excavation construction company for over 30 years.
WHY DID YOU RUN FOR THIS POSITION? West Harrison has an excellent school, facilities and faculty. School districts of rural and small towns often may have challenges with enrollment numbers and finances. I want to work with fellow board members, the superintendent and faculty to ensure WH remains intact and can locally serve all current and future children of the district. Our grandson will start at WH in a few years and I want him and others to be able to experience all WH has to offer.
WHAT FROM YOUR BACKGROUND QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS POSITION? WH is in my blood. My grandfather was in the first graduating class of Pisgah. My father, husband, myself, children, siblings, nieces/nephews have graduated from Pisgah/WH. I have been active in the school system, whether it was attending sport/music events, chaperoning, helping with Booster Club, Little Hawks Wrestling Club, Post Prom, fundraisers, etc. Working various positions in the banking industry for 30+ years and as the bookkeeper of our business has provided me skillsets in budgeting, accounting, analysis, negotiations, problem solving, contracts, project management and technology. I will bring these experiences to work with other board members to ensure WH remains a quality school and is competitive in the future.
WHAT ARE YOU GOALS IF ELECTED? I am thankful to the MV School District and appreciate that they have allowed WH students to participate in their sports programs. If the WH participation numbers appear to increase in the future and the community has an interest in sports moving back in-house, I would like to work with the school board members, superintendent and community to review and identify creative solutions to enable this and utilize the excellent facilities that WH already has.
I want to ensure that WH continues to offer all students the education that provides them the skills to be successful after graduation- whether going directly into the workforce, attending a trade school or traditional college.
