Information for the Logan-Magnolia Community School District special election

The Logan-Magnolia Community School District will hold a special election on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 to ask the voters to cast their vote on Public Measure A:

“Shall the Board of Directors of the Logan-Magnolia Community School District, in the County of Harrison, State of Iowa, for the purpose of purchasing and improving grounds; constructing schoolhouses or buildings and opening roads to schoolhouses or buildings; purchasing of buildings; purchase, lease or lease-purchase of technology and equipment; paying debts contracted for the erection or construction of schoolhouses or buildings, not including interest on bonds; procuring or acquisition of libraries; repairing, remodeling, reconstructing, improving, or expanding the schoolhouses or buildings and additions to existing schoolhouses; expenditures for energy conservation; renting facilities under Iowa Code Chapter 28E; purchasing transportation equipment for transporting students; lease purchase option agreements for school buildings or equipment; purchasing equipment authorized by law; or for any purpose or purposes now or hereafter authorized by law, be authorized for a period of ten (10) years to levy and impose a voter-approved physical plant and equipment tax of not exceeding One Dollar Thirty-Four Cents ($1.34) per One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) of assessed valuation of the taxable property within the school district, and be authorized annually, in combination, as determined by the board, to levy a physical plant and equipment property tax upon all the taxable property within the school district commencing with the levy of property taxes for collection in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025 and to impose a physical plant and equipment income surtax upon the state individual income tax of each individual income taxpayer resident in the school district on December 31 for each calendar year commencing with calendar year 2024, or each year thereafter?”

Absentee Ballots will be available Wednesday, August 23 to be mailed or to be voted in person at the Harrison County Auditor’s Office, 111 N 2nd Ave, Logan, Iowa, 51546. In-person voting will take place Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. starting Wednesday, August 23 through Monday, September 11. Application for a mailed ballot must be received by the Auditor’s Office no later than Monday, August 28. Application must include the voter’s name, driver’s license number or non-operating license or the voter’s four-digit PIN number, birthday, address, election name or date of election, and the voter’s signature. Voter Registration

New voter registrations or changes to a voter registration can pre-register before Election Day by completing a voter registration form at www.sos.iowa.gov and submitting it to the Auditor’s Office by Monday, August 28th.

Election Day Voter Registration

Any new voter or any voter who has moved into the district will be able to register to vote and vote at the precinct if the Election Day requirements are met. Requirements can be found at: https://sos.iowa.gov

Temporarily Combined Precincts

All voters in the Logan-Magnolia Community School District will be voting at the Logan Community Center, 108 W 4th St, Logan, Iowa. Voting hours will be 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12.
