Janie Rowe, 77

Janie Rowe, 77, of Missouri Valley, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on Sept. 28, 1946, in Council Bluffs, to Robert and Joan (McCollough) Allen. Janie grew up in Missouri Valley and lived there her whole life. She attended Missouri Valley Schools. Janie worked for the Community Memorial Hospital in her younger years and then managed Andy’s Gas Station and the Shell gas station until she retired at the age of 62. Janie was married to Dewey Allen Rowe on Oct. 5, 1965, in Elk Point, S.D., and to this union they were blessed with five daughters. Dewey passed away on June 1, 2018. They had been married for over 52 years. She attended the Church of the Nazarene in Missouri Valley.

Janie’s hobbies were camping with her family and cooking Sunday roast for her family. She liked to say that everyone was her “favorite” and she truly treated everyone as such. Janie loved all her dogs, especially Lucy Lou who was with her until the end.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey; parents; and brother, Bobby Allen. She is survived by her children, Jean Ann Kerger and fiancé Wayne “Chick” Grachek of Omaha, Neb., Sharon Rowe of Phoenix, Ariz., Barbara and her husband David Staben of Missouri Valley, Julie Rowe of Phoenix and Ginger and her husband Casey Mahoney of Missouri Valley; 11 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronnie Allen and his wife Betty and Dick Allen and his wife Gloria all of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends.

“We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.”

A funeral service was held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Sunrise Community Church of the Nazarene in Missouri Valley. Pastor Connie McWilliams presided over the service. The recorded musical selections were “Arms of Jesus” by Cade Thompson, “Jealous of the Angels” by Donna Taggart, “Take My Hand Precious Lord” by Joey and Rory and “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” by Chris Tomlin. The honorary pallbearers were Sarah Johnsen, Rachel Rowe, Ashley Rowe, Brittney Stueve, Emily Kurpgeweit and Hannah Mahoney. The pallbearers were Casey Mahoney, David Staben, Wayne Grachek, Matthew Kerger, Denis Staben, John Staben, Zackary Mahoney and Joshua Staben. Janie’s final resting place is at the Harris Grove Cemetery.
