Janssen’s direction helped shape MV CSD’s future success

Board President Jeff Janssen Concludes Over a Decade of Service to the Missouri Valley CSD

The Missouri Valley Community School District said a heartfelt “Thank You” to Jeff Janssen, Board President, whose remarkable tenure of over a decade concluded at the December 8 Missouri Valley school board meeting. Having first been elected in 2013, Jeff chose not to run for re-election this term, marking the close of an influential chapter in the district’s history.

Jeff’s commitment to the Missouri Valley School District has been widely recognized as a driving force behind many school improvements. During his tenure, he championed initiatives leading to transformative upgrades to district facilities, such as the Sports Complex, the Activity Learning Center with additional classroom space, advancements in educational technology with 1:1 student computers, and advancement in our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. His vision and steady leadership have been instrumental in guiding the district through both growth and challenges and always with the best interests of the students at heart.

During his tenure, Jeff strengthened our district’s solid foundation by advancing growth and continuous improvement. He prioritized the recruitment and retention of exceptional teachers, administrators, and staff, and supported the development of high-quality facilities. With these elements firmly in place, Jeff guided the board in focusing on the supports students need to thrive and in fostering a learning environment where every student can reach their fullest potential.

Newly elected MV School Board President John Ferris stated, “Jeff Janssen has been an outstanding leader for the Missouri Valley Community School District. As Board President, he never had an agenda and always focused on solutions that were best for the kids, parents, and the community.  He made a difference and his service to this district will always be appreciated. I am proud to have served on the Board with Jeff for 10 years. I wish him the very best.”

Director Carrie Watson stated, “Jeff is a rare gift: he can quiet a room simply by listening. He brought reason before reaction and courage before comfort, and he somehow managed to ask the hard question with kindness. Our board, and honestly, our whole community is stronger because of the way he led. Jeff leaves big shoes to fill, and even bigger inspiration behind.”

“As a new Superintendent, I could not have asked for a better leader to guide me as I learned how to do this job. I knew I could count on Jeff for simply offering thoughtful, steady perspective during complex moments, and for that, I am forever grateful”, added current MVHS Superintendent Christi Gochenour.

Jeff’s connection to the Missouri Valley School system is not just professional, but also personal. Both he and his wife, Rachel, as well as their three children, Camryn, Sydney, and Dane, graduated from Missouri Valley Schools. His roots run deep and his leadership in the district is a testament to his unwavering belief in the quality of local education.

Beyond his official duties, Jeff Janssen has meant a great deal to the entire Missouri Valley community. His approachability and thoughtful perspective have made him a respected figure, known for uniting diverse viewpoints toward common goals. His legacy is one of integrity and a deep-seated belief that a strong public school system is the cornerstone of a thriving community.

The Missouri Valley Community School District honors his decade-plus years of service as a powerful example of civic duty and dedication.
