Katherine Lorraine (Weatherly) Burress, age 74, of Missouri Valley, passed away on Jan. 15, 2026.
Katherine was born on Aug. 13, 1951, in Council Bluffs, the daughter of Gloria Nadine (Gregurich) Weatherly and Charles Clarke Weatherly, joining her brother Joe Weatherly.
She grew up on a farm in an area known as "Old Town" in St. John Township. She started driving tractor at age 11 while her father and brother picked up hay bales. Her job was to count the cows every evening out in the pasture.
She attended Missouri Valley Public Schools until moving with her mother to Council Bluffs. Kathy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1969. She always stayed connected with her Missouri Valley classmates. Kathy attended Iowa Western Community College earning an associate degree as a Certified Dental Assistant. She also received her Certified Nursing Assistant degree while working at the Missouri Valley Hospital.
Kathy married Donovan Burress in November 1973. To this union three children were born: Kelli, Damian, and Daniel. A fourth child, Baby Boy Burress was stillborn July 29, 1981.
Kathy had many interests including: music, cooking, gardening, local history, genealogy, crafting, adult coloring, needle arts, old movies, reading and collecting.
Most of all, Kathy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Remaining to cherish Kathy's memory are daughter Kelli (Bob) Pietramale; sons, Damian (Nikii) Burress, Daniel (Amber) Burress; stepsons, Shawn (Jennifer) Burress, Shane Burress, Troy (Vicki) Burress; and all of her grandchildren.
Preceding Kathy in death is her father, Charles Clarke Weatherly; mother, Gloria Nadine (Gregurich) Hand; brother, Joseph Clinton Weatherly.
Memorial Donations in Kathy's memory can be directed to United Methodist Church or the Harrison County Humane Society.
