Katherine Marie Thomas, 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday Jan. 19, 2025. She was born on Nov. 12, 1954, in Council Bluffs, to Rolland and Karen (Baxter) Jacobsen. She grew up in Missouri Valley and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1973. She then attended cosmetology school and was a beautician for 30 years, most of which were at her salon, The Golden Comb. Kathy married Bruce Thomas on Aug. 10, 1979. They were blessed with three daughters Tanya, Karan and Cheryl. Kathy later managed the Logan Missouri Valley Country Club and Gurney's Lounge.

Kathy enjoyed following her favorite local bands High Heel And The Sneakers, Acoustic Groove, and High Heel The Band. She was the number one fan of her children and grandchildren, rarely missing a concert or sporting event they were participating in. She was a second mother and surrogate grandma to many including Maddox's Blair Cubs Baseball Teammates. Her strength, courage and positive attitude were admired and will live on in the hearts of everyone who was blessed to have known her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Rolland Jacobsen; infant sister, Shari; brother, Ellis Vern Jacobsen; and parents-in-law, William and Betty Thomas. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bruce Thomas of Missouri Valley; daughters, Tanya (Scott) Studer of Ralston, Neb., Karan Thomas of Missouri Valley and Cheryl (Jay) Wheeldon of Missouri Valley; grandchildren, Kyra, Kaelyn, Kloey, Maddox, Sawyer, Logan, Madison and Kaden; great-grandson, Sutton; mother, Karen Jacobsen of Missouri Valley; brother, Terry (Corinne) Jacobsen of Desoto, Mo.; honorary daughters, Jennifer Neill, Halie Stirtz and Sara Cleek; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in Missouri Valley. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday.
