Larry L. Joy, 83

Larry Lee Joy was born on July 19, 1939, in Logan to parents Everett and Esta (Baldwin) Joy. He graduated from Logan High School with the class of 1957. Larry then enlisted and served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1960. He then returned to work for the Teamsters Union, where he helped build missile bases in several states. On April 26, 1963, Larry married Leona Shepard and the couple made their home in and around the Pisgah and Missouri Valley area. For over 30 years Larry worked for Swanson Towers Condominiums in Omaha until retirement in 1998.

When Larry was not working he loved being outdoors, especially with his cat, Felix. He also enjoyed reading, but most of all, he loved the time he spent with his family.

Larry passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughters, at the age of 83 years, nine months and 24 days.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles; stepson, Martie; and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Leona of Missouri Valley; daughters, Regina (Tim) Cunard of Missouri Valley, Dianna (Mark) Gettler of Avoca and Kolean Joy of Missouri Valley; seven grandchildren, Amanda (John) Lorenzen, Derrik (Ashley) Cunard, Breanne (Joshua) Johnson, Ashley (Joel) Holben, Alyssa (William) Fernandez, Allan (Payten) Hopp and Brett (Kate) Hopp; 13 great-grandchildren, Lyndsey, Noah, Isaiah, Lainey, Landon, Wyatt, Morgan, Ethan, Emmett, Reese, Myles, Zaiden and Avi; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service was held Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Pastor Glen Hudson officiated at the service. Recorded Musical Selections of “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” by Chris Tomlin and “Voice of Truth” by Casting Crowns”. The pallbearers were Derrik Cunard, William Fernandez, Joel Holben, Brett Hopp, Allan Hopp, Joshua Johnson and John Lorenzen. Final Resting Place was in the Soldier Valley Cemetery near Pisgah.
