OPINION: Lee Admit’s . . .
LEE ZION, EDITOR
Harrison County Times-Reporter
I have a few personality quirks.
I admit it. I work an odd schedule sometimes, because inspiration rarely strikes on a set schedule. So if an idea for a column pops into my head at nine at night, I get up and start typing. In fact, it is 9 p.m. right now as I’m typing this.
One of the advantages of this job is it is highly compatible with who I am. After all, a weekly deadline means I can do nothing at all in the middle of the day, as long as I have, by the end of the week, a full load of stories already submitted.cWhy, just this week, I have a story about the county meeting, a story about birdhouses, a story about the county courthouse and two stories about Modale. Plus a bunch of random photos.
In fact, I have so much stuff that I don’t know if the paper has room for it all.
Next week is the fair. Or, by the time you get to read this, what I’m calling NEXT week will be THIS week. I will be very busy during the fair, as well. I will get pictures of the exhibits, of kids being cute, of fair food. And I will make time to go to karaoke at the fair on Wednesday night. I plan to sing, if they have it, “Life’s Too Short,” which was written for, but not used in, the movie “Frozen.”
Head over, and you can meet me. We’ll talk. As a bonus, you’ll get to hear a song from “Frozen” that you’ve never experienced before.
Next week, Dunlap will hold its 4-County Fair. I will attend, doing the same things there that I’m doing here.
Remember how I said, in an earlier column, that I will never stop? Well, this is what that looks like.
I have another personality quirk, too, and this one is the exact opposite of what I described. Sometimes, I just don’t feel like working.
The mood eventually passes, but there are times I’ll spend hours not doing anything.
After all, the paper’s already filled up, so why bother?
When that happens, I reflect on why I got into this business in the first place. There are so many stories to tell, and I want to tell them. It’s not that I won’t stop; It’s more like I CAN’T stop.
So there it is, and in the meantime, here’s a little preview of next week:
Why don’t you stay? There’s room for family in my court. ’Cause life’s too short!
