LHYSS On Target – Hits Bullseye with Another Successful Season

 

Loess Hills Youth Shooting Sports (LHYSS) completed another successful season of Trap Shooting. The season culminated with participation in the 2026 Iowa Scholastic Clay Target Program State Trap Championship in Cedar Falls, Iowa from June 8 - 14.

 

The team had a total of 63 athletes. It was comprised of 5 athletes in the Rookie Division (3rd – 5th grades), 31 in the Intermediate Division (6th – 8th grades), and 27 athletes in the Senior Division (9th – 12th grades).

Approximately 3000 students from across the state competed in the State Championships event June 8 – 14 in Cedar Falls. Forty-eight shooters from LHYSS participated in the State Championship.

THE BEGINNING - 2012

Loess Hills Youth Shooting Sports was founded in 2012 to offer the youth of Harrison County and surrounding areas an opportunity to compete in the sport of trap shooting. In conjunction with the five school districts in Harrison County, we can award high school athletes competing in trap shooting a sports letter. We have been competing at the State Championships since our inaugural year, 2012.

 

COACHES: The 2026 team is led by Head Coach Jack Winther, and Assistant Coaches Rod Ortner, Brent Wohlers, Rex Gochenour, Jeff Straight, Mike Ardery, Josh Oliver, Nathan Hussing, Tanner Winther, Bill McElroy, Jim Kill and Nick Konsbruck.

 

Loess Hills Youth Shooting Sports, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation overseen by a Board of Directors consisting of Brent Wohlers, Chairman; Deb Gochenour, Board Secretary; Dave Wiener, Board Treasurer; Board members Rex Gochenour, Nathan Hussing, Rod Ortner, Jeff Straight, Jack Winther and Tanner Winther.
