Teachers and community members reflected, as students wore patriotic clothing, trying to grasp the significance to Friday morning (Sept. 11, 2026) at the Bob Evans Memorial Sports Complex.

The Logan Iowa Community Foundation partnered with the Logan-Magnolia School District is setting up a tribute to commemorate the tragic day on Sept. 11, 2001 as the World Trade Towers were struck down in New York City 25-years ago.

“The idea was Mr. Joe Gorman (social studies teacher), and he did all the work in getting this program set up,” stated Logan-Magnolia Principal Blake Dickinson. “I thought it was an excellent opportunity for our students, staff, and community to come together to honor the lives lost and the sacrifices made on that day 25 years ago. Since none of our students were alive on 9/11, we felt it was important to show them how big of an impact the event had on our country. Our students rose to the occasion and showed the utmost respect for our flag and first responders.”

The Logan-Magnolia First Responders, Fire and Rescue and American Legion all participated in this patriotic event, and the impact it left in a small, western Iowa community was felt in the silence as the gentle breeze fluttered the ‘Stars & Stripes’ during the moment of silence.

A total of 2,997 miniature flags were placed on the front lawn of the school district, in rememberence of the lives lost on that tragic day.

“it was a beautiful service with a great turnout from our community, and I’m so happy we were able to be a part of something so touching for our community and school,” stated Brianne Niedermyer of the Logan Community Foundation. “I hope the students understand how much 9/11 impacted those of us who were alive at the time, even though we lived here in Iowa and were miles away from New York.”
