Michael R. Doiel

Posted

Michael Roy Doiel was born on Feb. 26, 1952, in Omaha, Neb., to Donald and Sylvia (Morrow) Doiel. Michael was raised in Omaha and as a child helped his father with performing body work/painting of vehicles and pumping gas at their family-owned gas stations. Michael attended North High School and during this time met the love of his life Margaret Lasovich and they united in marriage on Aug. 15, 1970. To this union three sons were born- William Roy, Brandon Michael and Jason Emerson. Michael and Margaret eventually moved from Omaha to a country acreage located southeast of Missouri Valley, in August of 1992- (Michael had spent many weekends traveling across the Mormon Bridge looking for the perfect Iowa acreage for his family).

Michael worked as a vehicle mechanic for JCPenney Auto Service in Omaha early in his career prior to becoming an Automotive Equipment Operator for the City of Omaha and retiring from the city after 30 years of employment. Michael enjoyed using his knowledge of vehicles to help family and friends with working on their vehicles replacing brakes and performing tune-ups. He always had great appreciation in being able to help others throughout his entire life.

Michael had many hobbies he enjoyed that included bowling, yard work, gardening, splitting-burning wood, watching sports-(Raider and Sooner games for sure) and he was especially good at horseshoes and always held tournaments for the annual 4th of July bar-b-que. He was always in charge of the BBQ grill at this event (only using charcoal briquettes of course). Michael also enjoyed taking Margaret out to eat and playing the slot machines at the casinos.

Michael and Margaret shared nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Margaret passed away following a courageous battle with cancer in 2018. Life was never the same for Michael without Maggie. But his boys and his grandkids kept him going, helping him around the house, spending time with him, and keeping the slot machines fed. Michael was always very appreciative of anything anyone did for him. You were never allowed to leave his house without a Pepsi in your hand. Michael was a loving, devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.

Michael is survived by his brother, Patrick (Kathy) Doiel; children, William (Meghan), Brandon (Amy), and Jason (Amber); nephew, Mickey Doiel; grandchildren, Quinton, Marissa, Brantson, Kenzie, Cainen, Hayden, Ashlyn, Jaelyn, and Jordan; great-grandchild Ivan; dog, Dutchess and cat, Calli.

He is preceded in death by: Spouse, Margaret (Lasovich); parents, Donald and Sylvia (Morrow) Doiel; brother, Donald “Dude” Doiel.
