Minutes of the Special Meeting Board of Directors The Missouri Valley Community School District Monday, September 18, 2023 Call of Order President Jeff Janssen called the meeting to order at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, September 18, 2023, at the District Office Conference Room, 109 East Michigan Street, Missouri Valley, Iowa. Roll Call Present: Jeff Janssen, John Ferris, Bridget Myler, and Carrie Watson Absent: Joanna Barnard Also Present: Superintendent Christi Gochenour, Nate McDonald, Secretary Ashley Anderson, and guest. Approve Agenda Director Watson approved the agenda as presented, and Director Myler seconded. All Ayes; motion carried. Closed Session Director Myler motioned to enter into a closed session as provided by Iowa Codes §§21.5(1)(a) and (e) of the open meetings law to review or discuss records which are required or authorized by state or federal law to be kept confidential and to discuss whether to conduct a hearing or to conduct hearings to suspend or expel a student, unless an open session is requested by the student or a parent or guardian of the student if the student is a minor. Director Ferris seconded. Roll Call vote as follows: Ayes – Watson, Ferris, Myler, and Janssen Nays – None The Board entered closed session at 5:01 P. M. The Board exited closed session at 5:26 P.M. Action Regarding Disciplinary Hearing Director Myler motioned that the Board accept the superintendent’s recommendation that the student who was the subject of the disciplinary hearing be expelled from attendance in the Missouri Valley Community School District and any school activities through September 18, 2024. That written findings and conlusions consistent with the Board’s deliberations will be prepared and the President is authorized and directed to execute the Findings of Fact and Conclusion. Director Ferris seconded. Roll Call vote as follows: Ayes – Watson, Ferris, Myler, and Janssen Nays – None ADJOURNMENT The next Regular Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 16, 2023, to begin at 6:00 P.M. Director Watson made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and Director Ferris seconded. All Ayes; motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 5:27 P.M.
