Nancy Sherrill Skelton died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Jan. 18, 2026.

Nancy began working at a young age, helping at her parents’ café and later working at the Soda Grill in Missouri Valley. After graduating, she held various jobs before retiring from MidAmerican Energy. Following her retirement, she worked part-time at Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley.

Nancy married Jerry, the love of her life, on June 27, 1970. This union brought together four daughters: Tammy, Kim, Tracy, and Chris.

Nancy enjoyed dancing, especially with Jerry, which brought joy to all who watched. She also enjoyed bowling, yard work, golfing, boating, canning, making peanut brittle, embroidering tea towels, and making burp cloths for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved playing solitaire and supported Jerry with her love for the Iowa Hawkeyes and Detroit Lions football teams.

Nancy’s continued connection with her school classmates was evident through her involvement in class reunions and her enjoyment of a monthly luncheon with close friends. She always looked forward to family celebrations. Although the chaos of these gatherings could sometimes be overwhelming, she embraced the joy and the memories they created.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, for whom she was a devoted caregiver and constant presence by his side during his declining health. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Gladys Ager; her sister, Helen Allen; and her granddaughter, Erin McHugh.

She is survived by her daughters Tammy (Tim) Podraza, Kim (Ron) Riggle, Tracy (Russ) McHugh, and Chris (Mike) Guinan; 14 grandchildren; and 42 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements made by Hennessey Funeral Home, Missouri Valley.
