Semi accident shuts down I-29 on July 11
The Harrison County Communication Center received a 911 emergency call on July 11 for a semi fire on Interstate 29, Northbound, just to the south of the Missouri Valley interchange.
Upon arrival, the rear of the semi-trailer was well involved with fire, and the trailer was placard with hazardous and flammable materials.
Fire suppression was started as mutual aid from other departments for the incident. Once the fire was extinguished, operations were turned to mitigating and containing hazardous materials. The Tri-County Social Operations team was activated. This team includes firefighters from Crawford, Harrison and Shelby counties who are trained to the Hazardous Materials Technician Level.
Upon arrival at the scene, assessment and mitigation efforts were completed.
Arrow Towing and Environmental Solutions arrives, and were able to off-load the remaining hazardous material, as well as perform clean up on the interstate.
Interstate-29, North-Bound was re-opnened at 8:30 p.m.
