DES MOINES – Senator Mark Costello, R-Imogene, filed his nomination petitions with the Iowa Secretary of State last week to run for re-election in Senate District 8.
As a southwest Iowa conservative, I have been humbled to be a part of such a productive and conservative legislature,” Costello said. “From passing the heartbeat bill, to tax relief and defending Iowa agriculture, it has truly been an honor to represent this portion of the state in the Iowa Senate. I look forward to continuing to serve our area and deliver more results for the hardworking people of southwest Iowa.”
Costello grew up in rural Imogene, graduating from Nishna Valley High School and the University of Northern Iowa in 1984. He was employed as a computer programmer/analyst with Garst Seed Company in Coon Rapids, Iowa, for five years prior to returning to the family farm.
Costello and his wife, Rachel, were married in 2001 and have five children: Matthew, Julia, Peter, Ethan and Andrew. The family resides on their farm in Mills County where they raise corn and soybeans. Rachel is a native of Lacona, Iowa, and she home-schools and cares for their children. The Costellos attend Sunnyside Bible Chapel in Atlantic.
Senator Costello was elected to the Iowa House in 2012 representing House District 23, and was first elected to the Iowa Senate in a special election in 2014.
