Special adults get to see ‘Spiderman’

A special showing of “Spiderman” was held at the Rialto movie theater downtown.
The showing on Aug. 11, was for local clients of Trivium Life Services. The 58 clients got in to see the famed web slinger, free of charge. And some of the concessions were also free.
The audience filled the seats down below, and even in the balcony.
“Did they put you up there because you’re a troublemaker, Kevin?” Corri Tierney called from below.
Tierney, marketing director for Trivium, said that Liam Guinan, the landlord for Trivium locally, had seen the movie and thought it would be a great gift for the people who use Trivium’s services.
“They have funded this event for us,” Tierney said.
Guinan, who owns Guinan Heating and Cooling, is also a partner with Trivium. Fred Schulte, who runs the theater, is also a partner, Tierney said.
A donation of this sort is rare, she said.
“There’s been a lot of generosity, typically around fundraising events we have. I’d say this is pretty unique,” said Sarah Karkowksi, director of annual giving for Trivium.
Tierney said that a typical day for Trivium clients focuses on day rehabilitation. The movie outing fits with Trivium’s goal of community integration, Tierney said.
The clients have only a limited amount of funds, from Social Security disability. So an event like this is good for everyone, she said.
Guinan introduced himself as the service technician for Guinan Heating and Tech.
“And owner,” Karkowski adds. Sometimes he gets so busy that he forgets, he said.
Trivium is an excellent pillar of the community, Guinan said. He added that the hopes the audience gets something from the show.
“This is a special opportunity for a lot of people,” he said.“We’re happy to provide the opportunity.”
Guinan called out to the crowd.
“Has anyone here already seen this movie?” he asked.
A few people raise their hands.
“It’s good, isn’t it?” Guinan answered.
“Who’s excited?” Tierney asked.
A big, loud whoop goes up, followed by shouts of “Thank you!”
