It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Bryson Mauney, who left us at on Nov. 1, 2024, at 78 years of age, at the home he was so proud to have built in Mondamin. Born on April 16, 1946, in Lincolnton, N.C., Steven was a man who found joy in the quiet moments and embraced the beauty of life's simple pleasures.
Steve spent countless days with his fishing rod by the water, savoring the peace that only nature could provide. He was never happier than when he was outdoors, whether casting his line, watching a sunrise, or breathing in the fresh air of the open landscape. He shared this passion with everyone around him, especially his family, who will forever remember him in those serene spaces.
Steve was a master storyteller. He could capitative a room with his adventures and those of days long past, each story told with a glimmer in his eye and a chuckle that warmed the hearts of everyone who listened. His stories were like gifts, each one a glimpse into his heart, his humor, and his unwavering love for life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Steven Bryant Mauney, Michael Wayne Mauney, who surely welcomed him with open arms in Heaven. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Helen Mauney; his sister, Donna "Jackie" Wood; his brother, Jerry Davis; his daughter, Christy Sutton (Joey); his son, Michael Cline (Matthew); his grandson, John Mauney (Wendy); and two great-grandsons, Jaxxon Mauney and Bryson Mauney, who will carry forward his legacy of warmth, laughter, and the joy of a life well-lived.
Steven also left behind his stepchildren, Albert Cline, Anthony Stoots (Laura), and Edward Stoots (Kimberly), Jessica LeNeave and Tammy Herbert (Frank) and many loved grandchildren.
Forever missed, deeply loved, and always remembered, Steve's presence will be felt in every story told, and every gentle ripple on a quiet lake.
