Movie Moment

There’s nothing better than comfort movies

Posted

A conversation I have far too often is the difference between having a favorite movie and having a movie that you have seen more than any other movie. I have a list in my phone dedicated solely to comfort movies, and although there are many of my favorite movies on the list, it doesn’t completely rely on them.

I spent the last week watching only movies that reside in my comfort movie list, so I thought it would only be fitting for me to share some of those this week.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”

By now, it's probably extremely obvious that the “Conjuring” universe holds a special place in my heart. Although I have seen the second installment, “The Conjuring 2,” at least 15 more times than I have seen this one, I still have seen this movie 10 times since its release in 2021.

It is based on the true story behind Arne Johnson’s court case, which was a media frenzy back in the 1980s after he claimed that the devil made him kill his landlord, Alan Bono. The claim clearly didn’t hold up in court, but this adaptation from the perspective of Ed and Lorraine Warren was the perfect mixture of my love for courtroom drama and horror.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”

I am a Marvel fanatic through and through, and when I first viewed this film, I was in awe. Coming in at No. 3 in my “MCU Ranked” list, this movie holds a special place in my heart. To me, this movie is not just a crazy movie about the obscenity of what the multiverse entails.

This movie is the host of one of my favorite lines in film: “You break the rules and become the hero. I do it and I become the enemy.” When I first heard this line said by Wanda Maximoff, I immediately felt a gut punch. Watching this with the sole perspective of Wanda Maximoff’s pain in a life without her children changes your perspective on the whole movie.

Just Go with It”

Adam Sandler is by far one of my biggest guilty pleasures. Out of all 2,342 films I have seen in my lifetime, Sandler is my most watched actor. If he is in a movie, I have seen it. This one in particular is easily my most watched film that he stars in.

My favorite part of all rom-com movies starring Sandler is that they all follow the same pattern: an average man falls in love with an extremely beautiful, model-esque woman. This movie follows that exact pattern, except it’s even better because it also stars Jennifer Aniston. This movie is my ultimate go-to for when I need a laugh.
