Dean J. King Family Foundation awards over $1.76 million in grants and scholarships

In keeping with Jimmy King’s legacy of charitable giving, the Dean J. King Family Foundation awarded a total of $1,762,072.00 in grants, academic scholarships, and music scholarships in 2025.

In December, 2025, 58 grants were awarded to to the following: Boyer Valley CSD, Missouri Valley CSD, Woodbine CSD, Logan-Magnolia CSD, West Harrison CSD, Modale Public Library, Mondamin Public Library, Logan Public Library, Woodbine Public Library, Woodbine Fire and Rescue, Dunlap Fire and Rescue, Modale Fire Department, Magnolia Fire Department, Persia Fire and Rescue, Pisgah Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Harrison County Fire and Rescue, Harrison County Emergency Management, Harrison County Sheriffs Office, Dunlap Senior Center, City of Missouri Valley, and the Rose Hill and Mt. Carmel Cemeteries.

Also receiving grants were Woodbine TeamMates, Harrison County Conservation (Willow Lake), Woodbine First United Methodist Church, Dunlap Betterment Group, Logan Christian Church, Pisgah Reach Out Group, Logan-Magnolia Youth Wrestling, City of Modale, Nebowa Christian Service Camp, City of Logan, Mondamin Community Partners, Mondamin Matthew House, Harrison County Fair, Prairie Rivers of Iowa, Logan Magnolia Soccer Club, City of Mondamin, Rialto Theater, Friends of Missouri Valley Dog Park, Scouting America Pack 85, Friends of the Loess Hills State Forest and Preparation Canyon State Park, Missouri Valley Youth Baseball, and the Harrison County Humane Society.

Beginning in 2019, every year the Foundation gives $10,000 scholarships to 25 Harrison County seniors. These scholarships are for $5,000 each of the first two years of college at a two-year or four-year institute of higher learning. Additional scholarships are available for those who pursue a less-than-two-year educational opportunity. Applications for these scholarships will be available in all Harrison County guidance counselor offices by February 5th. Additional scholarships include the original Jimmy King West Harrison Scholarships and annual music scholarships available at all Harrison County schools. The Foundation has provided approximately 1.8 million dollars in scholarships.

The Dean J King Family Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable foundation. Grants are awarded once per year for charitable, religious, educational, or scientific purposes. Only federally recognized 501(c)3 organizations or those obtaining a qualified fiscal sponsor are eligible to apply.

Please note: the Foundation does not fund ordinary operating expenses including but not limited to expenses for wages and salaries, repairs and maintenance, debt repayment, taxes, etc. The focus is the funding of specific ready-to-go projects that can be maintained by the applicant.

Applications for 2026 grants will be available at https://dkingfoundation.com September 1st and will be due October 15th. 2025 grant recipients MUST return their evaluation form by September 1st to be eligible for a 2026 grant.
